Personal Protective Guide

Job Task:  Weed Trimmer Operation

Hazards:  Eye injury from flying debris, inhalation of dust and airborne particles, hearing loss due to high noise, inhalation of fumes when refueling, and vehicle exposures when working near traffic

Although other exposures exist, they are not controlled by personal protective equipment; therefore, they are not indicated in this manual.

Additional Comments:  Operate equipment in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Ensure all machine guarding is in place before operation.  Where any object handled could possibly cause cuts, punctures or abrasions to the hands, appropriate gloves should be worn.  To reduce the chance of fire, do not refuel a hot machine.  Avoid inhaling fumes when refueling.  Fuel in a well ventilated area. Use particulate filter respirators if necessary.  Keep the general public away from the trimming activity.  Keep hands, hair, and clothing away from moving parts.  Reflective vests should be worn when working in or near roadways.
