Personal Protective Guide

Job Task:  Trencher Operation

Hazards:  Eye injury from projectiles, cutting into underground lines, high noise exposures, cuts or severe injury due to contact with the rotating parts, and foot injury from equipment rolling over foot

Although other exposures exist, they are not controlled by personal protective equipment; therefore, they are not indicated in this manual.

Additional Comments:  Operate equipment in strict accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.  Allow only trained and authorized employees to operate trencher.  Locate underground lines prior to digging.  Always operate in an open well ventilated area. Never refuel while engine is running or in presence of open flame.  Stop engine before performing any maintenance or trouble shooting and disable the ignition system.  Ensure all guards are in place prior to operation and after repairs.  Keep hands, hair and clothing away from moving parts.
