Personal Protective Guide

Job Task:  Table Saw Operation

Hazards:  Eye and head injuries due to flying particles, amputation of hand and limbs due to contact with blade, high noise exposure, foot injuries due to falling lumber, inhalation of airborne wood dust, and electrical shock due to improper grounding

Although other exposures exist, they are not controlled by personal protective equipment; therefore, they are not indicated in this manual.

Additional Comments:  Operate equipment in strict accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.  Allow only trained authorized users to operate or perform routine maintenance and repair on equipment.  Face shields are considered secondary protection and should always be worn with safety glasses or goggles under the shield.  Ensure the proper tool guards are in place and operating correctly.  Clean up to reduce combustible dust.  Use a particulate filter respirator.  Inspect electrical cord for damage.  Ensure all guards are in place prior to operation and after repairs.  Keep hands, hair and clothing away from moving parts.  Follow lockout/tagout procedures during repair.  Ensure the saw and electrical plug are properly grounded.  Use push sticks as needed.
