Personal Protective Guide

Job Task:  Sharpening Tools

Hazards:  Cuts from the tool and the sharpener or grinder, eye injuries from flying particles, hand or finger injuries from contact with the wheel, potential respiratory problems due to inhalation of particles being ground, fire hazards from sparks contacting flammable or combustible liquids, and high noise

Although other exposures exist, they are not controlled by personal protective equipment; therefore, they are not indicated in this manual.

Additional Comments:  Face shields are considered secondary protection and should always be worn with safety glasses or goggles under the shield.  Remove flammable and combustible materials from the immediate vicinity.
