Personal Protective Guide

Job Task:  Radial Arm Saw Operation

Hazards:  Inhalation of dust and particles, eye injury from projectiles, hand, arm, or leg injury from contact with blade or moving parts, foot injury from dropped objects, electrical shock due to improper grounding, and noise from saw operation

Although other exposures exist, they are not controlled by personal protective equipment; therefore, they are not indicated in this manual.

Additional Comments:  Operate equipment in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.  Allow only authorized trained users to operate saw.  Ensure all guarding is in place before operation.  All portions of the blade should be enclosed or guarded, except the working portion of the blade.  Face shields are considered secondary protection and should always be worn with safety glasses or goggles under the shield.  Disposable respirator is optional.  Keep hands, hair and loose clothing clear of all moving parts. Follow lockout/tagout procedures during repair.  Ensure the saw and electrical plug are properly grounded.
