Personal Protective Guide

Job Task:  Mowers (Riding) Operation

Hazards:  Cuts from contact with blade, eye injury from flying objects, hearing loss due to high noise, inhalation of fumes when refueling, and vehicle exposures when working near traffic

Although other exposures exist, they are not controlled by personal protective equipment; therefore, they are not indicated in this manual.

Additional Comments:  Operate equipment in strict accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.  Allow use only by trained and authorized individuals.  To reduce the chance of fire, do not refuel a hot machine.  Avoid inhaling fumes when refueling.  Fuel in a well ventilated area.  Cut vertically on slopes. Remove rocks and other objects prior to mowing.  Disconnect the spark plug before servicing.  Use seat belt if mower is provided with roll over protection.  Wear reflective vest if cutting near traffic.  Using a dust mask is optional.  Wear sun screen.
