Personal Protective Guide

Job Task:  Lifting and Carrying Materials

Hazards:  Trauma injury due to impact, foot injury due to dropped items, strains and sprains while lifting

Although other exposures exist, they are not controlled by personal protective equipment; therefore, they are not indicated in this manual.

Additional Comments:  Use proper lifting techniques.  Two people should manually lift or move heavy items.  Where possible use mechanical equipment.  Wear appropriate gloves when object being handled could cause cuts, punctures, or abrasions to hands.  Use proper lifting techniques. Stretch prior to activity to warm up muscles.
