Personal Protective Guide
Job Task: Backhoe Operation
Hazards: Injuries to employees working near the bucket, employees falling into trenches/holes, vehicle exposures when working near traffic, and high noise levels.
Although other exposures exist, they are not controlled by personal protective equipment; therefore, they are not indicated in this manual.

Additional Comments: Operate equipment in strict accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. Allow only trained authorized users to operate or perform routine maintenance and repair on equipment. Always operate in an open well ventilated area or vent exhaust directly outdoors. Never refuel while engine is running or in presence of open flame. Never remove radiator cap from liquid cooled engines while they are hot. Stop engine before performing any maintenance or trouble shooting and disable the ignition system. Ensure all guards are in place prior to operation and after repairs. Keep hands, hair and clothing away from moving parts. Use the three points of contact techniques when mounting and dismounting from the cab. Do not jump from the cab to ground. Ensure utility locates are conducted before operations begin. Follow lockout/tagout procedures during maintenance and repair. Wear seat belt if equipment has rollover protection.
