Personal Protective Guide

Job Task:  Auger (Post Hole Digger) Operation

Hazards:  Inhalation of dust/particles and exhaust fumes, eye injury from projectiles, high noise from the engine, hand and trauma injury from projectiles and contact with rotating parts, and burn injury from possible sparks or fire.

Although other exposures exist, they are not controlled by personal protective equipment; therefore, they are not indicated in this manual.

Additional Comments:  Operate equipment in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.  Allow only authorized users to operate auger.  Disposable respirator is optional.  Ensure all machine guarding is in place before operation.  Always operate in an open well ventilated area or vent exhaust directly outdoors.  Never refuel while engine is running or in presence of open flame.  Never remove radiator cap from liquid cooled engines while they are hot.  Stop engine before performing any maintenance or trouble shooting and disable the ignition system.  Keep hands, hair and clothing away from moving parts.
